Product Review: NYX Matte Lipstick & Cream Blush

It’s time for some color and for me to try out some of the new products I got a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been looking around for a cream blush as well as a bright matte lipstick and decided to see what NYX Cosmetics had for me.

First up…

NYX Matte Lipstick in “Indie Flick”
Price tag: $6.99

I love the color of this lipstick. It’s like a blood orange and it’s very pigmented. I strongly suggest exfoliating your lips to prep for a smooth surface, because matte lipsticks show every line and flake on the lips if you don’t. Although the lipstick has a matte finish, it didn’t leave my lips feeling dry, which is definitely a good thing.

Gripe: Be careful with layering this lipstick. If you layer on too much, the lipstick makes that weird colored ring along the inside of your lips. Blotting with a tissue is key :)

If you don’t care for the matte finish, add a soft orange gloss on top for some shine. I used the juicy Estee Lauder Pure Color gloss in “Electric Coral”, $22.50.
**note: It’s not listed on the site, so try "Blazing Coral" as an alternative.

Hey, it makes your teeth look whiter too ;)

Next up…

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in “Orange”
Price tag: $6.75

Orangecreamblush. Yes it looks and sounds intimidating, but be daring and just give it a shot!

I layered on the NYX rouge cream blush about three times to get the color I wanted on my cheeks. I used my fingers to apply and a combination of blending with my fingertips and a sponge. The color is gorg when placed on the apples of the cheeks, and I love that it has a build-able coverage. Here’s the final result below :)

Product Review: NYX Lip Smacking Fun Colors Lipstick

Last week I told you about my glorious trip to ULTA where I went ham in the NYX aisle! I bought lots of new goodies and couldn’t wait to try out their bright, vibrant lipstick shades. Today I wore my new NYX Lip Smacking Fun Colors lipstick in “Chaos” to make my makeup really pop against my white blazer. There’s something so sexy, chic, and classic about a red lip!

I loved that this lipstick went on creamy and didn’t dry out my lips. The color is definitely true to the shade you see on the tube (also a plus). And it’s a great comparison to my other fav, MAC’s “Russian Red.”

The color lasted pretty much all day, with a couple of quick touchups that left my lips just as vibrant as when I first applied it in the morning!

For $3.99 at Ulta … that’s a serious steal!

TIP: Don’t forget to line your lips with a red lip pencil to keep your lipstick from bleeding, and blot ever-so-lightly with a tissue to eliminate any excess product.

In The Bag: NYX Cosmetics

I made a SERIOUS pit stop at Ulta today in search for nothing but NYX Cosmetics goodies. I first heard about this brand through a friend when I was home in Austin a few years back and I just can’t get enough of this stuff.

It’s definitely comparable to MAC Cosmetics (another brand every gal loves). The pigments are rich, they are pretty true to the shades shown, and best of all this brand is AFFORDABLE

As you can see above, I purchased a few different lipsticks ($4-$6 each), nude lipgloss shades ($6), an orange cream blush ($7), pearl loose shadow ($3), and cream eyeshadow ($5). Great deals huh? My favorite item is the hot pink rubber makeup case that snaps open and close. LOVE IT!

Makeup Challenge Day 5: Copper Pigments

It’s so funny, that I chose to go with a very pigmented copper shadow on my lids. I used to wear colored eyeshadows all the time back in the day ;) Now I’m so used to keeping it simple with my favorite bronzer and blush and jazz things up with dramatic lashes or a dramatic lip, that I almost forgot what it was like to wear colors on my lids! lol I had to get used to it all day lol

Time: 25 minutes (maybe longer because I was moving slow lol)

Tools: Cover FX concealer, Cargo Blu_ray pressed powder, NARS Orgasm blush, NYX copper pigment shadow, Maybelline liquid liner, Mod half lashes, Benefit peach lip gloss, MAC seashell highlighter, Bare Minerals bronze eyeshadow

Flirt the Line: How to Apply Liquid Eye Liner

Precisely applied liquid eyeliner can give the appearance of bigger eyes, longer lashes, and considerable glamour — and with the right makeup and enough practice, even a novice can pull it off. Follow these simple tips to get the look!

Concentrate on Quality

Choosing a good liquid liner is crucial. It should be a quick-dry formula, so smudges are less likely, and it should have a soft tip that tapers slightly at the end. The color should also be rich — test it on the back of your hand and make sure you can draw a very dark line without having to push down too hard.

Master Technique

First, trace the upper lashes with an eye pencil or a damp angled brush dipped in dark shadow, getting as close to the lashes as possible. Once you’ve got the perfect line, trace over it with a liquid formula. To keep your hand steady, rest your elbow on a table and keep a light grip on the brush. Tip: Start from the middle of the lid for better control over the thickness of the line.

Flaunt Your Shape

If your eyes are close together, leave the inner corner bare and highlight it with a pale shimmery shadow. Extend the line at the outer corners, finishing just beyond the edge of the lash line — the farther out, the more dramatic the look. This makes close-set eyes appear to have more space between them. For eyes that are wide-set, the opposite holds true. Line the eyes all the way to the inner corner and don’t extend the line at the outer corners. If you’re wearing liquid liner for day, be sure the line is fine — no heavy streaks — and match your mascara to the liner.

Don’t Fuss Over a Smudge

Skip makeup remover when cleaning up mistakes. Instead, saturate a Q-tip with moisturizer, which will remove unwanted liner without affecting the other makeup you’ve put on.

Less Is More

To keep the look fresh and modern, the rest of your makeup should be clean, with light concealer and a soft pink blush on the cheeks.
