Threads of the Day: Gucci Prepster

"I woke up like dis, I woke up like dis … we flawless." Has anyone else been overdosing on the new Beyonce album? Her album has been on repeat in my house since she had me wake up in the middle of the night to download it off iTunes. Speaks volumes doesn’t it?

Just like her album caters to her various personalities, from sex pot to jealous girlfriend, I believe a woman approaches her wardrobe the same way. We dress according to the personality that wakes us up in the morning. This morning, my prepster personality decided to shine.

Thread list:

Trench Coat: Banana Republic
Cashmere Sweater: Nordstrom
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity
Boots: Gucci

I appreciate simple style. A great pair of jeans, boots, a casual sweater, and statement jacket looks clean and to the point. Funny because I asked for this trench coat for Christmas when I was in college (way before I knew how to style it, but still style savvy), and this is probably the third time I’ve worn it. Next time I plan to rock it with a fitted dress underneath and sharp stiletto pumps or a sexy sandal when the weather warms back up.

I like to invest in pieces that will be timeless. I splurged on these Gucci boots last Fall and absolutely love them. I don’t wear them enough because I don’t want to scuff them up (giggles). The gold studs on the heel add the perfect dose of rockstar edge to my outfits, and the soft burgundy leather is to die for.

I have been having a really great twist out week. My stylist used Ouidad products on my hair this last visit and I loved the results! I’ll be back with more news on what worked out in my hair.

So tomorrow, wake up and be flawless! What’s your favorite song off the new Beyonce album?

Threads of the Day: Effortlessly Chic

Hey love bugs! If you follow me on Instagram, I’m always talking about the ease of effortless style. I admire women who dress with class, are still on trend, and pull it off seamlessly and tastefully.

I’m the type of girl who doesn’t like to put a lot of thought into her outfits, and doesn’t bother purchasing anything that is too fussy. I like to feel comfortable, chic, trendy, and of course effortless.

You would be amazed at what you can do with a simple approach to your wardrobe, piecing fits together that are simple but still make a statement. To keep from being too plain, I love to jazz up a minimalistic look with accessories and the right shoes!

Thread list:

Zara sleevess blazer
Abercrombie & Fitch jeans
Forever21 basic tank
Zara heels
Topshop necklace

When shopping, I’m always keeping my eyes open for timeless pieces like this off-white Zara sleeveless blazer (which I snagged the last one on sale! Yay!), and a great pair of strappy black sandals. These are the kind of pieces that will go with everything and last you years longer than a trend. But don’t get me wrong, I love trendy pieces as well, but I believe you should always invest in timeless pieces over trendy ones.

Keep it effortless.

Threads of the Day: Black Mob

The weather in Atlanta has been really crazy lately. It’s hot and sunny one day and raining with flash flood warnings the next. So the other day I took full advantage of the semi-nice weather and went on a nice day date to the Georgia Aquarium and lunch downtown at a super cute seafood restaurant.

I love a fem tomboy look. I always try to balance this look with a bit of casual and sexy pieces to make it all come together. It’s all about balance. So if you want to wear a crop top with your stomach out, balance it out with slightly baggy cargo pants or boyfriend jeans and strappy sandals so you don’t appear overly sexy.

Thread List:

"Black Mob" crop top: Thrifted
Cargo Pants: Blank NYC from Loehmann’s
Zara Sandals
BCBG Clutch
Michael Kors Watch
Panache Evil Eye bracelet

You already know how much I love to surf the thrift stores, so I was super hype when I found this “Black Mob” t-shirt in the men’s aisle. I cut that bad boy into a crop top, rolled the sleeves up a couple of times and called it a day.

Sometimes you have to add that one key piece that kind of “throws everything off” but matches at the same time. That item was my iridescent BCBG clutch. I love the sporty/chic look it gives off! Another tip is regarding your shoes…they can either make or break your outfit. I went for a gold strappy sandal to add some spice to the tomboy look and switched into my white ked-like sneakers for a casual feel later in the day. (Always have a backup!)

Because I dress relatively simple, I love to pile on jewelry and accessories. I went with a mixture of dainty rings, my Panache evil eye bracelet gifted to me by a follower on Instagram, and my favorite Michael Kors watch. Finally I’m sporting “My Vampire is Buff” by OPI on my nails.

What is your go-to fem tomboy chic look? I’ve had a couple of people request a workout and diet post on the blog. Comment below if that’s something you would like for me to post!

Kerry Washington Delivers Effortless Style For ELLE Magazine

I know it’s July 1st and all … but can we just take a minute to rewind time and go back to Kerry Washington’s June cover of ELLE Magazine? As an avid fashion magazine hoarder reader, I really appreciate when a runway look can translate effortlessly into “real street style”.

Appropriately titled, “There’s Something About Kerry”, the ELLE spread featured looks from designers like Marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford, and more. I could see myself rocking everything from her makeup to each individual look. Stylist, Samira Nasr, chose the PERFECT blend of casual-chic looks for Kerry.

Check out the effortless looks from the spread below.

These Tom Ford embroidered boots though! (Insert emoji ghost face)

Kerry killed this spread! It’s amazing what a simple tee or denim button up can look like paired with sequins, beads, and shiny jewels.

Threads of the Day: Plain Jane

Some of my best dressed days are the days where I just “throw something on”. Those days are when I feel most comfortable, confident, and just … myself. Today was one of those days.

There’s power in style. Look past the brand, how much it cost, where you got it from … if you have style and know how to put an outfit together, you can feel powerful in whatever you wear.

My kryptonite in a sense are these white “Ked-like” sneakers. I wear them almost everyday lol. They go with everything! The perfect summer staple paired perfectly with jeans, cut off shorts, dresses, skirts, leggings, you name it. Yes, my only gripe is that they get dirty super fast, but lucky for me, the 2 for $30 sneaker deal at Urban Outfitters has me covered ;)

Now I love a great pair of vintage high waisted jeans, or “mom jeans”, as some would call them. I put my skills to work and added a little distressing in just the right places. Remember ladies, you can still be sexy and remain classy at the same time. Sexy doesn’t have to mean “show it all to everyone.” In the near future, I’ll pair these with some strappy sandals and a bustier top for a different approach for a night on the town!

Thread List:

Top: No Style
Jeans: Renae Cut Offs
Sneakers: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: Nasty Gal

What’s your go-to look that just works every time you “throw it on”?

Threads of the Day: Keep It Chic

"Fashion fades, only style remains the same." - Coco Chanel

I love high end labels … I mean really what girl doesn’t? But realistically my closet is more than a few pieces short of being lined with names like Philip Lim, Givenchy, and Balenciaga. ::le sigh::

So, let me clue you in on a secret about the above ensemble I put together. If you really have style then you could make a $10 look like a million bucks! It’s all about mixing high and low price points to look chic and on-trend.

And let’s not forget about the magic of thrifting! I love scoring finds from the thrift store because it’s pretty much a guarantee that no one else will have it. As long as you mix a thrift item in with something modern and of-the-moment, you won’t have any worries of looking like your sporting a costume.

Thread List:

High waist trousers: Thrifted
Crop Top: American Apparel
Heels: Zara
Bag: Forever21
Sunnies: Anna Dello Russo for H&M (I don’t wear them often because they are a little heavy and give me a headache lol)
Belt: BCBG
Necklace: My grandmother’s
Lipstick: Ka’oir in “Sex”

Always remember that you can still have major sex appeal and keep things classy at the same time! Crop tops are really big this season. Try pairing it with a full skirt, high waist jeans/shorts, or chic trousers like I did. I will definitely be pairing my crop top with a short suit set this summer!

As far as your makeup goes, I chose to rock a dark sultry lip and keep the rest of my makeup clean and simple. It’s all about making a statement. Pick one thing and rock it with confidence!
