2013 Spring Trends … With A McKenzie Renae Twist

image

I was a little disappointed to read that “Electric Red” is one of the makeup trends for this Spring. ::womp womp:: Don’t get me wrong, I love red! It’s classic, sexy, and timeless … not necessarily trendy. Believe me, the model pictured above is working that red hunny!

But I have a few looks in mind that I would love to see as 2013 Spring makeup trends!

1. Purple/Violet Lips

I love this look because it can be super daring, yet so ladylike in the matter of shades. You can opt for a soft, pastel lilac hue mixed with a hint of fuchsia for a chic pout, or a vibrant electric purple to satisfy your wild side! Both looks paired with a simple eye, manicured brows, and a great volumizing mascara will be sure to set you apart from the school of rosebuds come Spring ;)

and if you’re really feeling daring …

2. Fluttery Lashes

I think every women should know how to apply a strip of false lashes! I’m not saying you need to wear them everyday, but know that a great pair of falsies can alter your eye shape in just a few easy steps (check out my tutorial here on how to apply yourself). Keep them wispy, soft, and natural  to compliment your other beautiful features. My personal favorites are the Ardell Demi Wispies! You can find them at drugstores and Sally’s Beauty Supply for $3-$4.

3. Short Dope Nails

Although I rarely get creative masterpieces painted on my talons, I can appreciate an awesome nail design! Hey, I feature nail art in my dope nails posts every week :) I would love to see the trend stick around, but shave down the talons a bit. It’s fun and one of the easiest ways to “express yourself”. Kudos to you ladies who rock stiletto nails, because I … just … can’t! lol

4. Smokey Eyes and Nude Lips

Initially, when one thinks Spring, they think fresh faced, clean, and simple. Why not spice things up and get things sexy and steamy? A strategically messy smokey eye paired with a clean nude lip is sultry and very come-hither for Spring. All you need is a kick a**, super black, kohl eye liner pencil and smudger/q tip and you are good to go! A cheapie and favorite kohl pencil of mine, is the L’Oreal Extra Intense Liquid Eyeliner Pencil.

I am obviously picturing a very glamorous upcoming Spring! lol I’m down … it’s all about choices right? ::wink::

What are some trends you want to see this Spring? For those planning on breaking the rules, what looks do you plan on rocking?!

I love lashes! I don’t wear them as much as I would like because they annoy my eyes after a while but I love wearing them when I make time to pop them on! My new obsession … FAUX Lashes :) Get on these girls! Smoke & Mirrors Lashes & Stephen Moleski

I went to a fab event last Friday at J.Mont Studios here in Atlanta, where I got to meet the man behind the lashes … Stephen Moleski of Smoke & Mirrors Beauty. I blogged about his lashes a while ago HERE when I first got word about them, but now I could put the face with the brand!

I got a chance to interview him and we talked about how he got started with his line, the biggest lash mistake women make (which is trying to apply them in a hurry in case you were wondering), and those glorious signature lashes he does for Kim Kardashian that every girl wants to wear (the Vegas lash ::wink:: )

Enjoy a few snapshots below :)

How to Apply Strip Eye Lashes

False eye lashes have come a long way since the 70’s! Lashes spice up your features for a special night out or just to jazz up your look during the day. Have fun with them and allow yourself plenty of time to apply… you will be a pro in no time! Follow these easy steps :)

**don’t let the picture scare you ;)

What You Will Need

-Your favorite strip lashes

-Tweezers

-Eyelash Curler

-Scissors (You can use small manicure scissors.)

-Q-tips

-DUO lash adhesive

-Mirror

-Mascara

-Clean Fingers

How It’s Done:

1. Carefully remove the lash from the tray by rolling your thumb over the lash. This will help maintain the curve of the lash, which is necessary to keeping the lashes on with ease.

2. Measure the lash by placing it on your eye lid without glue. Cut any excess off by starting on the outer corner.

3. Take the DUO lash adhesive and adhere a small ribbon of glue to the silicone band. Tip: Use dark DUO adhesive for any smokey eye and clear for any natural look.

4. Let the DUO adhesive set about 40 seconds until tacky.

5. Place the lash on your natural lashes. Start aligning them from the outside corner, following the lash line.

6. Take your tweezers and gently push the lash into the lash line so there is no noticeable separation. Tip: Apply a thin line of eyeliner to your lid for easier blending between the lashes and your lash line.

7. For one-time usage and dramatic effect, curl lashes with a lash curler.

8. Apply mascara to the lashes.

PRO TIP: The less mascara and glue used, the longer the lashes will hold their integrity for longer usage.

**Roll the lash off gently with your thumb**

Lash 101

Here are some of my favorite lashes and brands right now! Steals for everyday wear and pricier ones for those special occasions:)

Lash Tips:

-For first timers, stick with a natural looking strip lash to test out for the first time.
-Take the strip (before you apply the glue) and hold it up to your lash line, make sure the length is correct. You may need to trim the ends to fit your natural eye shape.
-When applying glue to the lash band, the consistency should be a little tacky before applying it to the eye.
-It may be easiest to apply the lash from the outside corner of the eye and slowly drag it over the lid. The end of the false lash should meet the end of your natural lash on the outer corner.
-Use liquid liner to go over the lash band once applied to your eye, to give it more of a seamless look.
-Add plenty of mascara to the falsies & your lashes to fuse them together.
