Dope Find: Lucienne Francois Custom Blend Cosmetics

Have you ever bought a lip color, used that baby all the way up, and then return to the store to purchase it again just to find out that it’s been discontinued? I HATE when that happens! Why does it seem like all the good colors get discontinued?

Well I found a super dope solution to that and more! Lucienne Francois is a talented business woman who specializes in Custom Blend Cosmetics. You’ve seen me rock one of her custom blend blue lipsticks in this Threads of the Day post

I wanted something new and fun for the summer, and decided to go for a pop of blue and soft lilac lipstick to jazz up my summer makeup.

And it doesn’t stop at lipsticks, she can make anything you need, including custom or replicated nail polish, lip gloss, foundation, bronzer and eye shadow.

I love how pigmented the lipstick is and the nail polish could definitely pass for a dupe of an OPI shade. Here is a close up of the custom blue lipstick.

Fun right?!

And here’s a close up of the custom lilac with the lilac lipgloss applied on top!

This color is trending for Spring and Summer and is a fresh alternative to wearing pink. I only applied two coats of the lipstick and have no liner underneath.

The next time you run out of your favorite shade of anything and find that it’s been discontinued or even if you want to create your own custom color, check out Lucienne Francois Custom Blend Cosmetics at !

What the “Kiss Of Death” Really Means

As a makeup artist, it’s important to not only be skilled in makeup artistry but also to know your makeup history.

You’ve heard the phrase “Kiss of Death” right? It’s one of those lines we use often but we have no idea where it originated or what it really means. Well here’s a random fun fact you can share with your friends!

The phrase “Kiss of Death” was coined because of the harmful mixture of fucusalgin, iodine, and bromine mannite that Egyptian women used to create lipstick. Highly toxic, the mixture often lead to serious illness and sometimes death.

Product Review: Mary Kay Satin Lips Mask & Balm

If you’re trying to rock a bold lip this Fall, then maintaining a smooth, silky pout is the only way to go!

Not only does a bold color go on creamier and smoother when your lips have been properly exfoliated and conditioned, but it also helps the color to penetrate deeper into the lines of the lips making for longer wear.

Chapped, peeling lips are not cute ladies!

So if you want your lips to look like this…

or this…

Then you need to invest in …

Mary Kay Satin Lips Mask & Balm

I know what you’re thinking … "I can just use a baby toothbrush to exfoliate my lips." You could, but this treatment together gives great results and you can carry it on the go to use whenever needed.

The Satin Lips lip mask is an exfoliator that you gently apply to your lips in a circular motion, leave it on for 1-2 minutes then remove with water. Follow up with the Satin Lips lip balm and your lips will be ready for any bold color!

I like to use the exfoliator first thing in the morning so my lips are already conditioned for my lipstick of choice. The products don’t irritate my lips or feel abrasive at all.

The Satin Lips set is $18 and available online on the Mary Kay website (or you can purchase them individually for $9.50 each).

Definitely gets a thumbs up in my book :)

Pat McGrath’s 6 Fall Lipstick Pointers

This is what’s up for fall … according to industry veteran and creative advisor for Dolce & Gabbana The Makeup … Pat McGraath :) Check out her Q&A:

How do you find the perfect red lip color for your skin tone?
The perfect red lipstick is all about undertones: those with an olive/yellow (warm) undertone to their skin should choose warmer orange-red lipsticks for the most flattering look, whereas women with pink/red (cool) undertones look best in cool, blue red shades.

Are there are guidelines to be aware of before trying out a hundred shades?
Makeup is all about having fun! With lipsticks it is all about experimentation, so try pale shades, brights and extreme darks until you find one that you love. If you’re trying multiple shades one after the other, remember to remove the lipstick completely before trying another one on – you want to see that shade in its truest form, not with a hint of the previous shades coming through!

How can we make a matte lip look last—without getting super dry?
The special formulation of Dolce & Gabbana’s Passion Duo range helps retain moisture in the lips and contains over 50% emollients, which makes it luxuriously moisturizing, perfect for lips affected by either cold or dry heat.

Another trick is to put the tiniest amount of foundation on your lips as a base before the lipstick, this helps your lip color to last longer and also helps prevent dryness.

LIP Color for FALL

LOVE this lip!! I hope it sticks around through the fall :) These are the products I use to achieve this color:

MAC Lipstick “Rebel”:$14.50

MAC Lip Pencil “Burgundy”: $13

TIP: For a dramatic lip like this, make sure your lips are exfoliated and smooth to give you a flawless look! Apply a little bit of lip balm first to keep your lips moisturized.

BONUS: You can wear both of these products individually and it will give you two completely different looks! Add a clear gloss over the pencil for shine :)
